Applications Invited Award Conferred April 2020 The Jiao Tong Baker Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studiesis pleased to invite applications for the next Martha Cheung Award, to be conferred in April 2020. The Martha Cheung Award aims to recognize research excellence in the output of early career researchers, and to allow them, like Professor Cheung herself, to make their voices heard in the international arena and play a role in charting the future directions of research in the discipline.
HKBU Faculty of Arts emphasizes the contributions of art and culture to society. With five departments (Chinese Language and Literature; English Language and Literature; Humanities and Creative Writing; Music; and Religion and Philosophy), one Programme (Translation), a Language Centre, four research centres (for Applied Ethics; Chinese Cultural Heritage; Sino-Christian Studies; and Translation), and two research institutes (the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology and the Mr Simon Suen and Mrs Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute), the Faculty of Arts at HKBU offers an especially rich environment for comparative, cross-cultural research of global relevance.
Martha Cheung Award for the Best English Article in Translation Studies by an Early Career Scholar Jiao Tong Baker Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies The Martha Cheung The Award is established in honour of the late Professor Martha Cheung (1953-2013), formerly Chair Professor of Translation at Hong Kong Baptist University. Professor Cheung was an internationally renowned scholar whose work on Chinese discourse on translation made a seminal contribution to the reconceptualization of translation from non-Western perspectives.
International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies Funding Opportunity The Regional Committee are pleased to announce a recent initiative whereby Routledge and IATIS will co-fund two regional workshops each academic year. A maximum of £750 is available for each workshop. Workshop organizers are expected to source further funding from local funding bodies and organizations to meet the total cost of the workshop if required. Applications will be reviewed and decisions made twice a year, with deadlines of May 31 and November 30 of each year.
HESPAL is a British Council managed scheme, which offers scholarships to young Palestinian lecturers from universities in the West Bank and Gaza enabling them to study in the UK. HESPAL aims to help create the next generation of senior academics who can maintain international quality standards at Palestinian universities and develop renewed, sustainable links between Palestinian and UK universities. University of Bristol, in partnership with the HESPAL scheme, will offer 3 PhD scholarships per year for a 4-year period from 2017/18, working with institutions in the West Bank and Gaza.
